Our approach
Care for babies is extremely gentle. Techniques are adapted specifically for small bodies and involves very light, precise contact. There is no manipulation of the kind used for adults.
Each new appointment begins with a thorough history covering pregnancy, birth, feeding and development. We explain everything we find and we work at a pace that feels comfortable for your baby and for you. Your Chiropractor
Dr Belinda Small (B.Ex Sc, M.Chiro) has a particular interest in pregnancy, postpartum and family Chiropractic care. Her work with babies includes infant primitive reflex assessment and gentle cranial techniques. She also works alongside Lactation Consultants and other practitioners to best support your family.

Can a Chiropractor see Paediatric patients?
Yes. We see newborns, babies and children at The Local Chiro. Every visit starts with a full history and examination and if something sits outside Chiropractic care, we refer you to your GP or another appropriate practitioner.
What does a Chiropractor do for babies?
We assess how your baby moves, feeds and holds themselves. We look at the spine, neck, jaw and surrounding tissues. Where appropriate, we use very gentle techniques designed for small bodies.
Is Chiropractic safe for newborns?
Care for babies is very different from care for adults. We use very light contact and no adult-style manipulation. Every visit starts with a full history and examination.
How young can my baby be seen?
We see newborns. If you have any concerns call us before booking and we can talk it through.
What happens at the first appointment?
We take a detailed history of your pregnancy, birth, feeding and development, then gently assess your baby. We explain what we find and what we recommend before doing anything.
Do I need a referral?
No, you can book directly. If your baby is also seeing an IBCLC, Midwife or GP we're happy to communicate with them with your consent.
Working with your care team
When Chiropractic care is provided alongside the work of an IBCLC, Midwife, Oromyofunctional therapist or another provider everyone can work with the same baby and the same goals in mind. We value these referral relationships and communicate back to referring practitioners where appropriate and with family consent.

We see families from Mount Gravatt East and nearby suburbs including Holland Park, Mount Gravatt, Wishart, Mansfield, Carindale and Coorparoo as well as other suburbs across Brisbane. Appointments are available on Tuesdays, Thursday afternoons and evenings and Saturday mornings.
