Frequently Asked Questions

Chiropractic care is supported by a growing body of evidence, particularly for musculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain, neck pain, and certain types of headaches. Research shows that spinal manipulation and manual therapies can be effective in reducing pain, improving mobility and enhancing function, often with outcomes comparable to other conservative treatments. Current clinical guidelines commonly recommend Chiropractic care as a first-line, non-invasive approach, especially when combined with exercise and patient education to support long-term recovery and overall wellbeing.

A Chiropractic adjustment is a specific, controlled manual technique applied to a joint to improve movement, reduce tension, and support proper function of the nervous system. It typically involves a quick, gentle force delivered in a precise direction, which may produce a “click” or “pop” . Adjustments are tailored to the individual and can range from traditional hands-on techniques to low-force methods making them suitable for people of all ages and comfort levels.

Chiropractic care is widely considered safe when provided by a qualified and registered practitioner trained in spinal manipulation. For common musculoskeletal conditions such as back and neck pain, it is a well-established, non-invasive treatment option with a low risk of serious adverse events. Most people may experience mild, short-term effects like soreness or stiffness after treatment, similar to starting a new exercise. Importantly, it’s essential to seek care from a professional specifically qualified in assessing and safely manipulating patients as they are trained to identify contraindications and tailor techniques appropriately. Gentler approaches may also be used where needed for children, older adults or those who prefer low-force care.

Chiropractors are required to complete extensive university-level education focused on the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions. In Australia this typically involves a 5 year accredited program (such as a Bachelor and/or Master of Chiropractic) which covers anatomy, physiology, neurology, radiology, differential diagnosis and clinical practice. This is along side many hours of hands-on training in spinal manipulation. Chiropractors must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and meet the standards of the Chiropractic Board of Australia. Chiropractors are also required to undertake ongoing professional development each year to maintain their registration and ensure they are providing safe, evidence-based care.
